Pink Collar Cares Charity encourages positive self-image in today’s youth. This mission is achieved through the distribution of personal hygiene essentials. We believe in look good, feel good, and do good. We are all about positivity and loving ourselves in a healthy manner.
Pink Collar Cares is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of today's youth. By providing personal hygiene kits, Pink Collar Cares (PCC), promotes positive self-image and confidence among children. These kits contain essential items that ensure children arrive at school clean, well-groomed, and ready to learn. Unfortunately, many of these items, which most of us take for granted, are lacking for children in need.
PCC was a great idea that was birthed for “business” in January 2014 after TiSchell Wilson, Founder, worked as a substitute teacher in Atlanta, GA for a short time. During temporary assignments, she primarily worked in elementary schools and witnessed conditions that children arrived at school which caused great grief in her. She noticed unkempt hair, dirty faces, ill-fitting clothes, and neglected oral hygiene. Additionally, she encountered students with a history of lice and teachers seeking assistance in finding suitable clothes from old Lost & Found boxes for fifth-grade promotion ceremonies.
In early 2014, TiSchell began seeking small donations from family and friends to create $14.00 hygiene baskets. These baskets contained various essential items that she could fit inside. Gradually, donations poured in, and the baskets were distributed to fifth-grade students who were transitioning to middle school. PCC aimed to capture the attention of these students, instill positive self-image, and promote accountability. By addressing hygiene and grooming concerns, PCC hoped to eliminate obstacles these young people might face in middle school.
Over time, the baskets evolved into "care kits" packed in plastic pouches. These kits contained the same items as the baskets but were more convenient to carry in a child's backpack while keeping the contents organized at home. Initially, the kits were distributed only to children in need at local elementary schools. However, with increased support from the public and to avoid isolating any children, PCC expanded its donations to entire classrooms or the entire fifth-grade population at local schools. PCC also offers presentations on the importance of positive self-esteem and proper use of the hygiene kit items, engaging both students and teachers. Kits are distributed to all students, and those who don't need them can return them to their teacher or guidance counselor, allowing critical resources to be available for others in need.
PCC not only provides care kits but also emphasizes the promotion of positive self-esteem in each child, regardless of their family circumstances. The organization strives to encourage youth to view themselves as valuable and productive members of their families, schools, and communities.
In 2022, PCC successfully launched the PCC Stay Clean Cabinet initiative to support middle school children. The cabinet contains individual hygiene items and additional resources. Students can discreetly take the products they need, reducing potential embarrassment. Each cabinet is stocked with various items, including socks, detergent, feminine products, combs, and brushes. Middle school recipients have the opportunity to develop consistent hygiene routines and gain insights into the importance of grooming through literary resources provided as well. Hygiene kits and cabinets are also distributed to local community centers, organizations, and churches. Schools and co-ops interested in receiving PCC Kits can have them shipped to their location. PCC continues to thrive and meet the needs of future decision-makers through the support of donors, grants, and hardworking volunteers.
